Danielle and Doug had a classy Alexandria wedding at the Morrison House, which has loads of charm and character and was voted one of the “Best Wedding Venues” by Washingtonian magazine, and I had such a wonderful time second shooting their wedding with Megan Kelsey. The hotel was absolutely stunning and perfect for the romantic look they wanted to achieve, and being the complete foodie that I am, I have to mention the delicious meal. So good!

One of the best thing about being a Northern Virginia wedding photographer is the unique style that each bride and groom brings to their wedding day, and this has a lot to do with the location. There are loads of gorgeous and historic venues around the DC Metro area and the cobblestone streets of Old Town Alexandria took these charming photos to the next level. From the classic florals to the bride’s lace wedding gown, everything was perfect.

For their three year anniversary, Kate and Brian wanted to document the special month with a Leesburg anniversary photo shoot. I’ve always admired engagement and anniversary sessions in local coffee shops so we started at Shoe’s Cup & Cork. I had just enjoyed breakfast at the funky coffee shop a few weeks earlier and knew that this would be the perfect location. The staff was super accommodating since the coffee shop was fairly empty, and they even handed over chalk to write messages on the big chalkboard wall. I absolutely love the shots of Kate and Brian enjoying bowls of ice cream from outside the café.

While we were finishing up the session in a park across the street, we all realized that we have the same exact anniversary. How great is that? Brandon and I just celebrated being married for three years, too, so this was a fun session to shoot. Now, if only I’m able to talk Brandon into some new family photographs…

Kelly and Ryan had a rustic chic Berryville wedding at the Mackintosh Fruit Farm in Northern Virginia. Their wedding colors were absolutely perfect for a fall event (I was completely obsessed with the maroon bridesmaid dresses), and Kelly DIYed almost all of the unique touches you’ll see in the following photos. Her family brought a crate of apples from their farm for guests, the centerpiece candles were wrapped in burlap and decorated to perfection, and the vintage wooden doors were painted white and used as a backdrop during the ceremony. The wedding party also wore cowboy/cowgirl boots which made the photos so much fun!

Kelly and Ryan told us that they wanted to focus on their family and friends throughout the day so we took plenty of candid photographs of them interacting with guests. They definitely have wonderful people surrounding and supporting them!

The best part of wedding photography is capturing raw emotion and all of those candid moments that make the day special. Some of my favorite photos from Kelly and Ryan’s wedding include them praying before the ceremony, Kelly reading a love note from Ryan, and the impromptu performance all of the children put on for the newly married couple.
